On the 25th of January 2024, Rockstar Games released a new race type to Grand Theft Auto: Online called Drag Races, as part of the Chop Shop Update. These races introduce new mechanics such as burnout starts, where you rev your engine and try to get a perfect start; and manual gears, a long-requested feature where players can manually change gears on their car. This mechanic isn’t exactly like other racing games with proper manual transmission, but it makes sense in Grand Theft Auto’s context! I wanted to draw the track maps of the new seven Drag Races, taking the style of my Community Series jobs graphics given both are seven races. Check out the tweet below!
I used Adobe Colour for the colour palette, based on the image used in the announcement post, and automated the system in my Illustrator project file to easily swap out colours in the palette to match the background. The track maps are listed in alphabetical order. If there were more Drag Races being added in future, an archive of previous track maps will be listed below–let’s hope they’re more interesting than literal straight lines!
